When an eye emergency strikes, immediate and expert attention is essential. At The Focal Point Optometrist, we understand that vision concerns can be frightening and require quick, specialised care.

We reserve appointments each day specifically for eye emergencies to ensure that our existing patients, as well as new individuals in the Wembley community, can receive prompt assessment and treatment for urgent eye conditions.

When to Seek Emergency Eye Care

If you experience any of the following, do not wait, contact our office immediately for guidance and an urgent appointment. If it is outside of business hours and we can’t be contacted please seek immediate medical attention at the nearest hospital emergency department.

Sudden Vision Change

A sudden loss of vision, flashes of light, or a dramatic increase in floaters (which can indicate a retinal tear or detachment).

Eye Pain or Redness

Severe pain, intense redness, or light sensitivity, which may be a sign of acute glaucoma, uveitis, or a serious infection.

Foreign Body

A piece of grit, metal, or another object lodged in the eye. Do not attempt to remove it yourself.

Chemical Exposure

Any chemical substance splashed into the eye requires constant rinsing and immediate emergency medical attention. 

Eye Trauma

A blow or injury to the eye or surrounding area.

Our service includes treatment for:

  • Sudden Red Eye or Infection: Diagnosis and treatment for conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, and other acute infections.
  • Foreign Body Removal: Safe and sterile removal of superficial foreign bodies from the eye.
    Corneal Abrasions (Scratches): Expert management to promote healing and prevent infection.
  • Flashes and Floaters: Urgent assessment to rule out serious conditions like a retinal tear or detachment.
  • Acute Pain: Diagnosis and relief for sudden, severe eye pain.

If your condition requires care beyond the scope of optometric practice, we will immediately refer and coordinate with a specialist ophthalmologist or a hospital emergency department.
